Retired school personnel hold spring luncheon



Recently at the Frederick County Retired School Personnel Association spring luncheon, member door prizes were drawn for local restaurant gift certificates. Local restaurants donated gift certificates that totaled $400. The following restaurants provided gift cards: Bollinger's from Thurmont; The Braddock Inn from Braddock Heights; The Main Cup from Middletown; Potomac Street Grill from Brunswick; Dutch’s Daughter; Gladchuck's; Il Porto; Le Parc Bistro; Madrone's; Mariachi; Mexicali Cantina; May's Restaurant; and Olive Garden, all from Frederick.

The winners were, from left, Dottie Lowman, Leo Mims, Lois Kuhn, Dorothy Fogle, George Peet, Rose Graf, Jenny Powell, Carol King, Jackie Dewitt, Marsha Wise and Sharon Crawford. Shari Ostrow-Scher, member of the Frederick County Retired School Personnel Association (FCRSPA), won the Maryland Retired School Personnel Association’s Individual Award for Community Service. She was recognized for creating and continuing to support Children of Incarcerated Parents Partnership (COIPP). COIPP provides fun opportunities for the children to attend and works directly with incarcerated moms through the Parenting from Afar classes held at the jail. In addition, COIPP provides gift cards to local stores for emergency family needs, children are given no-sew blankets, backpacks filled with school supplies, hygiene projects, books, and more. FCRSPA also won MRSPA's Local Association Project Awards in the 200-899-member category for the Great Frederick Fair Field Trip Experience. Seventy-five members of FCRSPA provide 12 "Agriculture Stations" for 5000 elementary students during 4 days of the Frederick County Fair each September. Rotarians and members of the Farm Bureau assist them. Finally, FCRSPA also was recognized for greatest membership growth in the 200-899-member category.
